Lovable.dev review: can AI build a website for your UK business? (2025)
Lovable uses AI to build websites from a text description. We tested it with a real UK small business brief. Here's what happened.
Lovable.dev is an AI tool that builds websites from a plain-English description. Type in what your business does, and it generates a complete site — design, layout, and basic copy. We gave it a real brief to see how it performs for UK small businesses.
What we tested
We gave Lovable the brief: "A plumbing company based in Oxford offering emergency callouts and bathroom fitting. We want to rank on Google and get enquiries by phone and WhatsApp." We then evaluated the result against four criteria: design quality, mobile performance, SEO readiness, and ease of editing.
What Lovable does well
Speed is the headline feature. A basic site was live in under ten minutes. The design was clean, modern, and mobile-responsive. For someone who has zero technical knowledge and needs something online today, this is genuinely impressive. The generated copy was usable, though generic.
Where it falls short
SEO was the biggest limitation. The generated site had no structured data (schema markup), no localised content targeting "plumber in Oxford," and meta descriptions that were too generic to rank. For a business that needs to be found on Google — which is most UK small businesses — this requires manual work after the AI does its job.
Who Lovable is for
Lovable works well for: getting a prototype live quickly, testing whether a business idea has traction, and businesses where traffic will come from social media or word of mouth rather than Google search. For a tradesperson, consultant, or local business that needs Google to send them leads, we'd still recommend a professionally built and optimised site.
Our verdict
Lovable is a genuinely impressive tool that does what it says. For solo founders testing ideas, it's excellent. For established UK businesses that need local SEO and a professional result without the DIY learning curve, a proper build is still the better investment. At £499 for a five-page site, the cost difference is smaller than most people expect.
